Datuk Dr Abdul Aziz Yahya is a highly respected Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who did his basic training at Princess Anne’s Hospital in Southampton, England and became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists while he was there. He then went on to train in the management of Gynaecological cancers at the St. Mary’s Medical School in London. He is now a renowned Gynaecological Oncologist who receives tertiary referrals from both his colleagues and peers in Malaysia and regionally.
His most recent interest is in Robotics – Assisted Gynaecological Surgery. He received his extensive training in South Korea and performed the first Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy in Malaysia in 2009. To-date, he has done more than 130 robotic-assisted surgery both for benign gynaecological diseases and Gynaecological cancers.
He was an executive board member of FIGO (headquartered in London), a position he held from 2002 until 2016. He was the organising chairman of the very successful XVIth FIGO World Congress in KL in 2006. He was appointed again to be the Congress Organising Chairman for the XXI FIGO World Congress that was held in Vancouver Canada in October 2015.
He was also the Past President of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia for two terms and is currently the President-Elect of the Asian Society of Gynecological Robotic Surgeons (ASGRS).
His most recent achievement was being conferred the Honorary Fellowship of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). This prestigious award was conferred on him based on his contributions in the international arena of obstetrics and gynaecology.
